FLAWED BUT WHO CARES? STILL GOT THE ATHENA PRINT. STILL WANT THE CAR
Wait for it, wait for… boom!

Forty-three years on it’s still hard for some of us to hear the ‘T’ word in any context without being transported to a whaletail daydream, speciically the one with the big, fat underside that arrived with the intercooler and an extra 300c of capacity in ’78: the 911 Turbo is the turbo.
The original blown 911 was a radically different car from the 2.7 Carrera also available that year. Heavier, more plushly trimmed in period ’70s tartan and eortlessly quick, it was more GT than race refusenik, although it actually had a track cousin in the RSR Turbo.
But it was also lawed, with even more weight slung out beyond the rear axle, and, until 1989, available with just four forward gears that only drew attention to the lag. Who cares? Still got the Athena print. Still want the car.
