NAME: ROBERT 'KELLY' SLATER (G.O.A.T) AGE: 45 HEIGHT: 1.75 M NATIONALITY: AMERICAN

Drive World champ 11 times, including five consecutive titles 1994–98. He is the youngest, just 20 when he won his first title in '92, and the oldest (39) to win the title. First to ever score a perfect 20, as it was best three waves prior (replacing Shane Beschen, who still holds the honour, whom nailed the perfect 30 at Kirra). Notched up WSL event wins: 55. Mantlepieces collapsed due to sheer weight of trophies: unknown.

Feet Snapped two metatarsals in his right foot clean in two this season at J-bay, where this photo was taken, as he put it on Insty 'You ever folded your entire foot backwards? If you try it sometime, this is what it might look like.' It's possibly put him out for the rest of the 2017 season, didn't stop him catching a wave at his inaugural Wave Ranch test event recently. He broke bones in left foot in 2014 in similar fashion at Cloudbreak.

Flexibility Extra flexible in back, like an S-curve, which aids his incredible recoveries from moves. But now giving him pain from scoliosis. Being 45 this is entirely allowable. Not sure how it effects his golf swing, as he is really handy with a golf bat, playing off a handicap of two, not sure if this helps his surfing in anyway. But the cerebral nature of golf must come naturally to the calculating sports brain in that bald dome.

Physique Of Irish and Syrian heritage Slater has sought knowledge his entire career fine tuning the machine with good nutrition and training. He has no time for flat-earthers. And now has many fingers in many business pies with KS Wave Co, Purps, Outerknown, Firewire and who knows what else to keep him busy into retirement from the tour.

Ride Not content with changing paradigms with long time shaper Al Merrick Kelly now has the keys to the castle. He owns Firewire so now has his own sleds as Slater Designs and a stable of shapers like Tomo, Pyzel and Machado to boot. So he’s got his own wave, his own boards and own threads… Sorted.
