As I stared out of the office window, I couldn’t believe how bored I was with my job. I’d worked in IT software support for seven years. Yes, the pay was good but the hours were long, and there were hardly any other women in my company. Girlie lunches were never going to happen in my working day.

I was desperate for change - but what? Then a friend suggested I see a psychic.

‘What, a fortune teller?’ I said, laughing.

But I put my scepticism aside and visited Anne Jirsch for a reading at her office in Maidenhead, Berkshire.

Anne looked at the cards and said bluntly, ‘You’re in the wrong career. You should really be a beautician.’ I was surprised by this news especially when she added: ‘I can see you putting make-up on people, doing brides’ hair.’ I thought about it for a moment and realised she was right! A week later, I signed up for a course with the London School of Beauty and Make-up and discovered I was a natural. Six months later, I qualified and visited Anne again. ‘You need to hone your skills before opening your first salon,’ she said. ‘Don’t worry, you’ll soon be busy with clients.’ I practised my beauty skills on friends and family. Soon, people were paying me to do their hair and make-up and I received lots of bridal bookings - as predicted.

In 2012, Anne said it was time to open my first salon, which I called Options. It was a huge leap for me but Anne gave me advice about the salon’s location, hiring staff and the right products.

When Anne does a reading, she tunes into the energy around the issue. For example, when I wanted to open another salon, I gave her estate agent’s details for possible premises, and Anne picked the one that would attract the most clients. I trust her judgment completely and I visit Anne every six to eight weeks to see what’s coming up business-wise and how to handle it. Recently, I wanted to introduce new hair products. Anne helped me to make the final choice. Some people will think I’m strange going to a psychic, but if the advice has proved to be sound, why ignore it? People pay experts for career advice - a psychic just has a gift that’s out of the ordinary.
