O n 28 Au­gust 1981, po­lice re­ceived a tip-off from a well­spo­ken man who re­fused to give his name for ‘na­tional se­cu­rity rea­sons’. He said a woman’s de­com­posed, naked body had been found in North York Moors Na­tional Park.

Aged 35-40, 5ft 2in, with short, dark hair, the un­known woman, who’d been dead for up to two years, was dubbed the ‘Nude in the Net­tles’.

Med­i­cal stu­dents made a wax model of her head, but the case was never solved.
