In 50% of OMS cases, the syn­drome is caused by the body cre­at­ing an­ti­bod­ies to fight neu­rob­las­toma – but some an­ti­bod­ies at­tack the brain. This can lead to er­ratic eye move­ment, tremors and rage. In the other 50%, when a child has no ev­i­dence of cancer, the rea­son why an­ti­bod­ies at­tack the brain is un­known.
