Trapped at my in-laws

-

Q

Since lockdown, me, my husband, and our children are living with his parents because our house sold quickly. It’s stressful finding time alone. To make things worse, I found messages on our computer from my husband to another woman. It was clear they have an emotional attachment.

If we’d been home, we’d have had it out, but I feel trapped.

Do you have any advice? Kate, 43

A

I think the sooner you deal with it the better. Find somewhere to talk – take him into the bathroom if you need to. Tell him the truth – that you aren’t happy.

Be prepared – he’ll ask you why you’re reading his messages. There’s clearly no trust, which is the bigger problem.

Ask yourself why you don’t trust him, regardless of who he’s messaging.

That’s the bigger issue here.
