Cheshire Life - - Nostalgia -

One of the most readilyrecognisable cartoonists of his age, Bill Tidy evoked parodies of the north in cartoon strips such as The Cloggies and The Fosdyke Saga - tales of, respectively, clog-dancing folk and tripe magnates. His work appeared in the Daily Sketch, Daily Mirror, Private Eye and Punch, to name but a few, and he was a good raconteur on TV. Born in Birkenhead on October 9 1933, Bill was a self-taught artist who worked in a Liverpool advertising agency before finding that his cartoons were in such demand that he could make them his full-time profession. Bill lives in Derbyshire.
