Cham­pagne corks were pop­ping as 200 guests ar­rived at Ch­ester Race­course for a glam­orous Prince’s Trust polo day.

As the Lau­rent Per­rier cham­pagne re­cep­tion launched the pro­ceed­ings in fine style, guests were en­ter­tained by singer Scott Chap­man, be­fore tak­ing their seats for a lav­ish lun­cheon.

Cater­ers Horseradish served a three-course feast that in­cluded a starter of filo baked goats’ cheese, fol­lowed by rare roast medal­lion of moor­land beef, ale braised short rib, fresh horseradish, lemon and pars­ley gre­mo­lata, but­ter mash and roasted her­itage car­rots. Dessert was a de­li­cious rich choco­late mar­quise with fresh rasp­ber­ries and meringue. Then came the chance to learn a lit­tle about the game be­fore a polo show­case pit­ted spon­sors Til­ney against a team from the Prince’s Trust, with the game end­ing in a draw.

A down­pour did lit­tle to dampen spir­its as guests fol­lowed tra­di­tion by stomp­ing the div­ots be­fore head­ing back into the mar­quee. Af­ter­noon tea was fol­lowed by an auc­tion for money-can’t-buy prizes, in­clud­ing a pri­vate tour of High­grove Gar­dens do­nated by no less than HRH The Prince of Wales. An im­pres­sive £30,000 was raised from the oc­ca­sion.
