1967 XLH gets elec­tric start with new crankcases and a dif­fer­ent frame. Kick-only XLCH con­tin­ues

1969 AMF buys H-D. Sport­ster sales con­tin­ued to grow

1970 The dirt tracker rac­ing XR750 – ba­si­cally a de­stroked Sport­ster mo­tor – is launched

1973 XLH and XLCH get disc front brakes and Kayaba forks

1977 XLCR Café Racer is un­veiled at Day­tona

1986 The first year of the Evo­lu­tion V-twin en­gine Sport­sters, with mod­els: XLH 883, XLH 883 Deluxe, XLH 1100 and XLH 1100 Lib­erty

1991 The first year of the fivespeed Sport­ster

1993 All Sport­ster mod­els now fit­ted with belt drive

2004 First year of the rub­ber-mounted en­gine, which was fit­ted in a re­designed frame that was used across the Sport­ster range of four mod­els

2007 50th year of the Sport­ster. First year of fuel-in­jected Sport­sters

2008 Launch of the XR1200 in Europe. It’s ac­tu­ally launched in the US a year later!

2016 Launch of the sports-ori­en­tated Sport­ster model, the 1200cc Roadster
