FOUNDERS DAY, STANFORD HALL

The VMCC’S Founders Day remains a wonderful throwback to a simpler age. It’s a day to experience lovely old bikes being paraded gently round the grassy arena, or just basking in the mid-summer sun (hopefully). It also has one of the best, most tightly focused, autojumbles of the summer. It’s a genteel event in the best possible sense of the word. Organised by the Taverners Section of the club, it’s an event to savour with an ice cream or a cup of tea as you trawl the jumble stands. This year’s theme is American motorcycles, so expect to see Harleys, Indians and maybe examples of rarer marques like Flying Merkel and Henderson. Camping is available on Saturday night and there’s a beer tent and catering facilities too. Life in the slow lane – and all the better for it. thetaverners.com
