SWEATSHOP PHASE ONE, ECS MAXI CLASSIC
Run by Russell Benney, Phase One was the foremost British presence in endurance racing for three decades from the mid-1980s, winning world championships in 1993, 2000 and 2003. They won the European Classic Series in 2013 and 2015 and entered two equally-ranked teams at Donington on 140bhp P&M 1230cc Suzukis. One was ridden by Swedish former World Endurance Champion and GP rider Peter Linden paired with former TT and BSB hero Ian Simpson. The other pairing was South African Superbike racer Mike Dickinson and former Hottrax champion Hugh Brasher, CEO of sports clothing company Sweatshop. The race did not go well; Brasher and Dickinson were lying second when the engine blew, then after the other machine (which had had an overnight engine change) moved up to second, it pulled up after 3½ hours, smoking and rattling.
