BIKING WITH INTENT
These two photos were taken in 1965 when I was 21, touring Scotland on my Yamaha YDS3. The first is camping on Loch Oich, the second is at Wick with the bike loaded up with two battered old suitcases, a bowl, camping Gaz, tent, sleeping bag and bed. I can’t imagine what was in the kit bag, as I rarely got changed in those days (my wife will say that’s still the case). All went well until I filled up at Thurso (a single hand-cranked pump in those days – and probably still is, for all I know). When I got going, I thought the engine was knackered and rode gingerly until I had used the petrol. Brian Thompson
