A marketing tool to celebrate the success of Eddie Lawson on the AMA Superbike stage they may have been, but the various Eddie Lawson Replica (ELR) Kawasaki models have become sought-after and collectable among the big Zed cognoscenti.
1982 Z1000R1 Based on the existing 998cc Z1000J model, the ELR version – intended for the US market only – sports a black chrome four-into-one Kerker exhaust system and lime green paintwork. Just 200 were built according to Andy Ferry and each Kawasaki dealer was allocated one. Price, apparently, was left to the dealer’s discretion.
1983 Z1000R2 Now available in Europe (where white is also offered) the R2 has a black chrome four-intotwo exhaust.
1984 Z1100R1 With the 1089cc engine from the new GPZ1100 fitted, the last ELR model receives a welcome boost in both power and torque. It also has an 18in front wheel (the Z1000R has the larger 19in front), a brand new frame and is available in silver blue as well as lime green.
