1969 HONDA CB750
One of a number of early CB750S being offered at Ally Pally, this first-year 1969 model is one of the rare, early so-called ‘sand-cast’ models. In actual fact, the slightly rough finish to the crankcase castings is the result of gravity die-casting, a process in which the metal is poured into the die and allowed to fill it by gravity. Later castings were pressure die-cast, giving a smoother finish. An early-type oil filter cover and nine screws (rather than 10) mounting the clutch case are further clues to the bike’s desirable status as one of the ‘sand-cast’ models.
The bike is a US import, first registered in Indiana, but has now been registered in the UK. Meticulously restored and in excellent condition throughout, its estimate is £20,000-30,000.
