Bonhams have handled a vast quantity of literature and memorabilia over the years and sometimes some of that has turned out to be just as special as some of the bikes. Certainly that’s so in the case of the Auto-cycle Club Official Programme of the First Race For The International Auto-cycle Tourist Trophy of May 28, 1907. Gifted to the vendor by the grandson of legendary Brooklands handicapper and timekeeper AV Ebblewhite, this genuine programme contains a sheet of contemporary, undated timekeeper’s notes, complete with race entrants number against a nett and gross timed figure. These figures appear to tally exactly with the results of the race and are quite possibly the original timings taken by Ebblewhite as he waited at the line. The 10-page programme had some fatigue and tears, but was a superb and surely unrepeatable lot. A time capsule from the first year of the TT.
