MONTE CARLO CLASSIQUE
JOHN O’GROATS – MONTE CARLO, 27-30 JANUARY
This tour dedicated to pre-1959 car was a great event running alongside the main Monte Carlo rally, with a dozen classic owners taking their cars on a four-day run to the principality of Monaco.
Among the cars taking part was Michael Grimmond’s 1927 AC Sports, which his grandfather originally used to break a string of speed records after competing in the Monte Carlo Rally in the 1920s. It was used to mark the 90th anniversary of John o’Groats fifirst being used as a start point and the format of the tour brought in many of the challenges that would have faced the original event’s competitors, including a concentration run. Competitors had to set off in darkness to have enough time to meet their rally counterparts in Paisley later that day. Anne Dunnett, Lord Lieutenant of Caithness, did the flflag waving.
