The majority of jump starting solutions available today rely on a battery or other external power source to kick your classic into life. However, if you’ve neglected to charge up the portable charger itself regularly, it’s no more use than the battery in the car. For most classics, once you’ve dropped below 10-11V, you’ve no chance at all of starting – until now. Sealey has used the latest capacitor technology to create the ElectroStart, which uses ultracapacitors to store 300A and kick a lifeless car back into operation. Remarkably, the E/Start600 does this from just 5 volts – comfortably available in any ‘dim lights, no cranking’ situation and also easily obtained from a USB charging point. It is possible to charge the pack up quickly from a working vehicle via the battery or 12V accessory port, and unlike traditional packs the problems of battery degradation are avoided. The 1.4kg pack has an anticipated useful life of over 10 years. Online or high street retailers 01284 757500
