Hurrah for the Monza

Classic Car Weekly (UK) - - Your Letters -

Great to see the Opel Monza included in the 10 Grand Tourers feature ( CCW 13 January), and with a reference to the virtually forgotten Vauxhall Royale too. The Monza is a very undervalued and underappreciated car. When compared with the 3.0-litre Capri, for example, it offers superior build quality, performance, comfort and rarity, all for a fraction of the price. My car is an early chrome bumper 3.0E (1978-1982) and in my opinion is the one to have – without the uncomfortable Recaros, iffy digital dash and ugly plastic bumpers found on later (1982 on) GSEs. Find a good sound Monza or Royale and you will enjoy a true classic at relatively low financial cost. Ian Birks Barnsley, Yorkshire
