OWN EGAN’S XJ-S
An XJ-S Convertible originally used as a company car by Jaguar chairman Sir John Egan is up for sale in Ireland.
Dublin-based dealer David Golding says he expects the 1988 V12, which has 49,000 miles on the clock plus its original British registration plates, to end up with a UK buyer. It also has a current UK MoT, valid until next month.
The XJ-S was used by Sir John for the first year of its life. It was then owned by
Central News anchorman Bob Warman, who ran it until 1996.
The most recent owner has treated the XJ-S to a Harvey Bailey handling kit, uprated shock absorbers, a Xenon twin-headlight conversion and a stainless steel exhaust system with bypass pipes. The interior has also been fitted with a wooden steering wheel and additional wooden dashboard trim.
‘While it’s not 100% original and has been given quite a few upgrades, the car is in very good condition and it’s already had a quite a lot of interest,’ says David.
‘It’s a great bit of Jaguar history. Among the things that have come with it is the RAC membership card Sir John had for the car – although I don’t know whether the chairman of Jaguar ever had cause to call them out!’
