Circuit stars in DŽjˆ Vu rally treat
The star-studded Déjà Vu rally in Killarney has closed its registration after filling its quota of 150 competitors.
A host of stars is set to join the 150 competitors with Paddy Hopkirk MBE and Barrie ‘Whizzo’ Williams topping the bill to join a glittering array of former Circuit of Ireland rally winners for the run, which takes place on 26-28 March.
Co-organiser Dr Beatty Crawford thinks the popularity of the inaugural rally is down to nostalgia. He says: ‘It only took eight months for entries to fill out and we’re pretty pleased with that.
‘Back in the ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s there was so much more camaraderie and it’s because of that so many people want to get involved with it again. We’re really hoping to capture people’s imagination.’
Cathal Curley will be competing in a freshly restored 1973 Porsche 911 RS, the same car he used to win the Circuit of Ireland with in 1974. ‘The 911 had a reputation for being unforgiving, but I found the car an absolute pleasure,’ says Cathal. ‘We won by over five minutes, the largest winning margin ever! I’m travelling 300 miles to get to the event and it’s going to be absolutely fantastic.’
Other winning drivers taking part include Adrian Boyd, Russell Brookes, Billy Coleman, Di Llewellin, and Jimmy McRae, together with some past co-drivers.
