This is an expansive account of the contribution made by the Czech car manufacturer Tatra and the company’s chief designer, Hans Ledwinka, to modern motoring. The book looks at Ledwinka’s early projects for Nesselsdorfer-Wagenbau, where he was intially hired to design railroad coaches, before the company evolved into Tatra and Hans helped develop its visionary streamlined car body shapes. With his career at Tatra interrupted by World War One and a brief stint at rival manufacturer Steyr, Ledwinka returned in 1921 to invent the frameless central tubular chassis. Tatra is respected by engineers and designers alike, with prominent architect Sir Norman Foster, himself a T87 owner, providing a foreword. The book is comprehensively illustrated with many fascinating photographs, illustrations, period marketing materials and factory images. A limited number of signed copies are also available. ISBN 978-1-845847-99-9 www.veloce.co.uk
