Martin Brown is a long-time Triumph fan having owned several Vitesses over the years, and a GT6 too. But what he really wanted for about 25 years was a TR5. Finally, in 2009 his dream came true. ‘Values were starting to rise so I decided to buy before they pushed the TR5 out of reach altogether. My car was bought fully restored and I’ve never regretted its purchase, as it is superb to drive,’ he says. ‘It’s got plenty of torque and at motorway speeds the engine is relaxed, so fuel consumption is pretty good. Indeed it’s perfect for long-distance trips; I’ve taken my TR to France a couple of times. It’ll happily carry two people and their luggage for a week’s holiday. I’ve also got a TR6 that I’m restoring and from doing that it’s clear that you have to shop around when buying parts as the prices and quality can both vary.’
