Mike was look­ing for a TVR and dis­cov­ered the Chimaera was ideal for his price range, and has owned his 1995 400 model since 2002. Bought pri­vately, it of­fered more car for the money than other mod­els and meant there was some cash left over for any re­pairs needed.

‘I also like the retro looks, and just as im­por­tantly my wife liked the colour! The con­di­tion was good for the age and it had cov­ered around 27,000 miles, but I pretty much used it as a daily driver for the first nine years of own­er­ship so the mileage is now 90,000,’ he says. ‘It’s proven re­li­able with reg­u­lar ser­vic­ing. I also over­hauled the sus­pen­sion, and fit­ted a new dif­fer­en­tial as well as re­plac­ing the valve stem oil seals. It took a year – I did the work my­self. Since then it gets oc­ca­sional use.’
