PATRICK MOYNIHAN

Patrick Moynihan’s 1967 Daimler Sovereign was bought by his father when it was just four months old, having originally been used by a Jaguar manager. Ownership passed to Patrick in 1981. ‘I had to completely rebuild it, as the car was rotten. It took five years to do the work properly, as everything below knee level had to be replaced. It took 476 hours of cutting and welding, but the result was worth it as the car won numerous concours when it was finished 22 years ago. Now the car is driven more than shown; I’m not afraid to use it in all weathers as it’s well undersealed. I’ve also made a few tweaks to make it more usable. An XJ40 four-speed automatic gearbox is fitted, which makes the Daimler far more relaxed on the motorway and also allows me to get around 20mpg on a run.’
