This baby saved the Austin Motor Company and Longbridge, and was also the first truly affordable British car to buy and run. For virtually the price of a motorcycle combination came a car capable of 50 – and that figure is for both mph and mpg. Very much a scaled-down larger machine than a cheaply-built piece of austerity, the Seven was available in everything from ‘Top Hat’ saloon form to sporty Ulster two-seater.
