DID YOU KNOW?
The Allegro and its posh Vanden Plas variant were 1970s good and bad summed up in automotive form. But the cars actually had a lot to offer. The infamous ‘Quartic’ wheel only lasted two years, from 19731974
The shape has aged well, it rusted less than many contemporaries, and there were plenty of specifications to choose from. Some 642,000 were produced, and presumably even sold, over 10 years. The Allegro kept the Longbridge production lines busy and provided a lot of work in warranty claims. Can you call all that a complete failure.
