Tested: Fuji XF 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 £1549/£1399
Looking for a camera that will take great pictures of your classic – at rest and in action? Fuji’s compact X series is right up your street. This year’s major lens releasehas made this camera even more suited to the needs of the classic car photographer.
Taking full advantage of the X-T10, X-T1 and X-Pro2’s on-sensor phase detection and rapid AF and continuous drive, the weathersealed 100400mm zoom is designed for the APS-C sensor and as such, is smaller and lighter than traditional full-frame lenses.
It can be comfortably hand-held for tracking shots at motorsport events and tours. At 1.4kg, even with the body attached, the combination is well under 2kg. A close focus of just 1.75m combined with a focal length range equivalent allows tight crops of detail subjects, including some of the model car images in recent issues. As expected with modern telephoto and zoom lenses, optical stabilisation aids longer exposures and tracking shots. For best performance, the X-T1 and X-Pro2 offer eight frames per second with AF.
