Your tube, your tyre fitter

Classic Car Weekly (UK) - - Your Letters -

In the letter from Brian Aldred (13 April), the tyre fitter was mistaken in telling him that his Consul MkII wheels would not take tubeless tyres. The wheels do not incorporate the ‘ridge’ on the inside of the rim as do modern ones, to prevent the tyre from becoming unseated should it totally deflate. Nevertheless, Ford – and most other manufacturers – fitted tubeless tyres from new on all MkIIs (and other cars with solid steel wheels), from circa 1955.
