Viva heater solution

Classic Car Weekly (UK) - - Your Letters -

On reading about traditional Vauxhall Viva heater problems (20 April issue), I was reminded of similar trouble when I ran a 1970 H-reg HB Viva SL estate back in the late 1970s.

Where one of the Viva’s heater hoses met the top hose stub connection, the plastic internal joiner pipe collapsed, cutting the flow of water to and from the heater, with obvious results.

After partly draining the cooling system I removed the offending plastic pipe and rejoined the two hose ends with a length of half-inch diameter copper pipe. I ran it for another five years or so without problems and would happily buy another today. JE Kirby, Stoke Newington, London
