Jalopy computer game £9.99

Classic Car Weekly (UK) - - Product News -

Fed up with computer games where you race pristine Ferraris, Aston Martins and Jaguars? Jalopy is very – and delightfully – different. You start out with a decrepit Laika 601 Deluxe (basically a Trabant) which you have to rebuild with scrapyard parts, then head off across East Germany for the West, making money to keep your car going by scavenging or smuggling. Chunky graphics and muted hues do a good job of conjuring up the murky, rather technologically backward atmosphere of the 1980s’ crumbling Communist Bloc, with roads inhabited by Ladas, Volkswagen Beetles and MkI Golfs. The game is ‘early access’ at the moment, meaning it’s still being developed, based on user feedback, and will be constantly updated to remove bugs. Don’t expect Gran Turismo levels of realism and vehicle physics, but do expect quirkiness, fun and a constant battle against dilapidated machinery. Richard Gunn
