Rolls-Royce Phantom V
If you happened to see a newsreel of the Royal Family in the 1960s, there was a reasonable chance that a Phantom V would make a stately appearance. HM used a 1960 and a 1961 model, both with Park Ward Coachwork – the Perspex rear roof came about after HM expressed her wishes to be more visible to her subjects when on tours. There was also head-level air conditioning to compensate for the extra heat, and smooth-finished running boards to prevent the Queen from catching her heel at the State Opening of Parliament. Both Vs were retired from active service in 2002 and this model now resides at Sandringham.
