Rover P5

Classic Car Weekly (UK) - - Driven -

HM learned to drive in the ATS during WWII and her first car was an Austin Utility. By 1963, her private transport was a Rover 3-litre saloon, which was eventually succeeded by a 1971 3.5-litre. The colour schemes were non-standard but aside from a blue light mounted behind the front windshield, the P5s provided low-key transport for HM across the capital. Also, as one security officer observed to the press in the 1970s: ‘In case of trouble we can get it out of the Mews – fast.’
