Sibson meeting to return?
A series of popular East Midlands meets may be returning to their original venue after a dispute over parking has been resolved.
The Sibson Aerodrome Breakfast Meets, at a small airfield near Peterborough in Cambridgeshire, had been running with great success over the winter months, sometimes attracting up to 60 cars.
Organiser Mark Fishpool had plans for summer meets and a ‘Wings and Wheels’ day later on this year. However, at the final breakfast meeting of the year, aviation users of the airfield complained about the classic cars taking up parking places, despite there being plenty of room nearby.
‘It made us feel unwelcome,’ Mark tells CCW. He decided to concentrate on his other events at Willow Brook Farm and Ufford and drop Sibson.
However, an email from the Sibson Aerodrome management has assured him that the classic car enthusiasts are welcome at the venue. A meeting is planned to try to come up with a solution where all users of the airfield – which includes a flying school, parachuting and skydiving organisations and private aircraft owners – are happy with the arrangements.
‘I’m hopeful that we will be able to go back, because it’s a good venue,’ says Mark. ‘The meets have brought in custom for small café based there, as well as raised local awareness of Sibson and its services.’
If and when new meetings are arranged at Sibson, CCW will carry the details. In the meantime, the Willow Brook meetings are on 11 May, 8 June, 13 July, August 10 and September 14, starting at 4pm.
While the future of the Sibson meets is currently being resolved. For the moment, Mark is concentrating on his Willow Brook Farm events, pictured here.
