Fantastic Fords: £8m

Classic Car Weekly (UK) - - News -

One man’s collection of classic American Ford racing cars is up for grabs and is expected to fetch nearly £8 million.

Car dealer and racing magnate Jim Click is selling his sixstrong lot at RM Sotheby’s Monterey auction in the USA on 19-20 August. The group includes a 1966 Ford GT40, 1969 and 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302 Trans Ams, two 1964 Shelby 289 Cobras and a 1966 Shelby GT350.

By far the most expensive car is the MkI Ford GT40 – one of 31 ever made and estimated to sell for nearly £3m. Also in the collection is one of the most successful racing Cobras on the planet – a 1976 Shelby 289 Cobra. It won several B-production Class National Championships in America, and has never claimed a DNF.

‘It’s time for me to let someone else enjoy the cars like I have,’ says Jim. ‘They are fantastic – thoroughly prepared to the extent that we’ve never had a safety issue. Whoever ends up owning them, they’re in for a truly exciting ride. I hope they have at least half as much fun with these cars as I have had over these last 25 years.’

The sextet of Fords were filmed at Inde Motorsports Ranch Arizona. Visit tinyurl.com/ccwfordyoutube to watch the video.
