I must admit that reading our Scottish correspondent Gillian Carmoodie’s heartwarming tale on page 84 recounting her 1200-mile trip from Scotland to Wales and back had me smiling as well as shedding a tear.
I won’t spoil the ending for you, but I will share the reasons for the epic road trip she took in her 1957 Standard 8. She had taken a huge interest in our rich Land Speed Record history, and decided to take her trusty car on a pilgrimage to Pendine Sands to see Babs return to the venue where it broke the record. This trip served to remind me just what it is about our hobby that gets us so passionate, and makes us drive our cars for the love of it, not through necessity.
I’ve done it myself many times, and I’m so glad the next generation continues to uphold the tradition. Keith Adams, Editor @keith_ccweekly
