SILVERSTONE CIRCUIT, NORTHAMPTONSHIRE, 4-5 JUNE
The unrestored ex-1968 London-Sydney Marathon ‘BGT (bottom right) joined more than 1000 sister cars at last weekend’s MGLive! show at Silverstone. Organising body MG Car Club is claiming it was the ‘world’s biggest MG event’.
The car has been in dry storage since the 1980s and the MGB Register intends to restore the car to its period works condition, with support from British Motor Heritage, and Bicester College’s Motorsport students.
The two-day party also mixed club racing – with a huge variety of MGs taking to the track – with an autojumble, trade stands, club displays, themed parking areas, cars for sale and live music. The British Grand Prix circuit wasn’t only for the racers, with MG owners who’d brought their cars along encouraged to take part in parades.
New Top Gear presenter Rory Reid – who was filming a piece for the series – was one of the better known faces at the event, while For The Love of Cars presenter Ant Anstead and precision driving guru Russ Swift took part in MGLive’s live action arena. John Lakey
