At the cinema Jurassic Park
A Jeep Wrangler was the star of one of the year’s more unlikely car chases – largely because it had to outrun a hungry Tyrannosaurus Rex.
It was one of the more memorable scenes in Jurassic Park, which was a big hit on both sides of the Atlantic when it was released in the cinemas in June 1993. While there weren’t many cars on the island used as the eponymous theme park there were plenty of dinosaurs, resurrected using a fictional DNA extraction technique.
Unfortunately the park’s opening never happened due to the dinosaurs having a nasty habit of escaping but film fans were hooked – paving the way for a trio of digital visual effects sequels, culminating in last year’s Jurassic World.
