Peter Sellers’ 911 for sale through Sussex dealer
Peter Sellers’ Porsche 911 Turbo is being put for sale by a classic specialist in East Sussex.
Wadhurst-based Castle Classic Cars reckons the 1978 model – owned by the actor and comedian in the two years before he died – says it’s hard to put a figure on what the car will go for due to its condition and history. The car can be seen in ITN archive footage of one of its interviews with the star, of which Castle Classic Cars is now trying to obtain a copy.
Sellers specced out his 911 with optional sports seats, rubber buffers, chrome parts in black, coloured headlamp rings, climate control and sunroof. While it’s covered 143,000 miles it’s had two engine rebuilds, one in 1988 at 50,000 miles and a £6.5k overhaul back in March.
Director Andrew Collins says: ‘It’s the first time this car has been on the market since 1987. Mechanically it is in great shape. The current owner has just decided now is the right time to sell.
‘I think if we get strong interest from a Peter Sellers fan it could put a premium on the car. 911 Turbos of this era can fetch anywhere up to £70,000, so we’ll see what happens when it goes on sale.’
The 911 Turbo was one of the last cars bought by Peter Sellers, who also owned a Ferrari 500 Superfast and Aston Martin DB4 GT at the height of his career.
