John Fox’s new volume takes up the story of Alvis’ motor engineering in the post-war years. A chapter on what might have been ploughs some fertile ground, while the pages devoted to restoration and preservation takes up the story of some well known examples from the 1950s through to the present day. Where this book scores over earlier publications is the liberal use of archive images and colour photography highlighting contemporary cars. We were particularly impressed by a photograph showing an Alvis ice cream van with coachwork by W Wright & Son and we wonder what price a cornet would be from such a sophisticated vehicle.
