As 944 register secretary for Porsche Club GB, Paul knows a thing or two about these cars: ‘My father had 944s when I was young and they really made an impression on me, so when I was older and insurance became more affordable I decided to get one for myself. My first was a 1986 Lux, but I’ve had my current car – a 1990 S2 – for around nine years. When the first one started to need work replacing it with this one seemed sensible, and although in pretty good condition I’ve ended up spending a bit of money bringing it up to scratch. It was worth it, though, as the 944 is a really usable Porsche, and practical as well, so it gets driven on a pretty much daily basis. I certainly believe in using it properly and cover around 7000 miles a year, so it doesn’t get pampered. It just needs the usual maintenance.’
