MOFFAT CLASSIC CAR RALLY
MOFFaT sHOWGrOUND, DUMFries & GallOWay, 25-26 JUNe
A gaggle of Rootes Group classics fresh from a tour of the Scottish countryside made up the bulk of the entries at this one-day event.
The cars all belonged to members of Scottish Rootes Enthusiasts, and took part in the run around St Mary’s Loch the day before the static show to raise funds for local cancer charities. Fords were particularly well represented at this year’s show too, with more 60 heading into Moffat’s showground.
The pageant’s proximity to the English border meant the day’s displays were instigated by clubs from Northern England as well as Southern Scotland. Classic Wheels Dumfries, Tyneside American, Scottish Kit Cars and the Midas Group of Newcastle all put together stands that were a hit with visitors.
Scottish Rootes Enthusiasts says that the turnout of more 900 vehicles has made this year’s show a big success. Event chairman Gordon Bissett says: ‘The popularity of this event continues to grow. In fact this year, entries had to be closed off a few weeks ago because we hit maximum number of cars we squeeze into the showground.’ Gillian Carmoodie
