He may be just 25 years old, but Ben Le Marquand has owned his 1967 Imp Californian for 10 years. Says Ben: ‘I bought the car as a project when I was 16, back in 2006. There have been lots of Imps in the family over the years – my dad and grandfather have both owned them. My car needed new sills, replacement wheelarches and a full respray, but apart from a failed cylinder head gasket, it was in good shape mechanically.

‘I put it back on the road soon after my 17th birthday and took it on a trip to Ireland to mark the occasion. Since then, the car has been over to Holland four times and I’ve just come back from Le Mans.

‘It’s very usable, but best viewed as a twoseater as the back seats are cramped. It’s very economical and parts availability is excellent. It’s also a great car for young enthusiasts as there is a great social scene around it.’
