Battle bus in Lottery Awards shortlist
A 1914 AEC B-series bus restored as a mobile memorial to World War I is the only vehicle shortlisted in this year’s National Lottery Awards – the annual search for the UK’s favourite Lottery-funded projects.
Completed in 2014, using parts from four vehicles and costing around £250,000, the AEC is part of the London Transport Museum Collection. It has now been transformed into a ‘Battle Bus’ representing more than 1000 similar vehicles that were sent to France and Belgium to carry troops.
Other competitors in the Heritage category include a dance school celebrating Gaelic Heritage in South Uist and a Welsh lido. The winners will each get a £3000 to spend on their project, and will attend a star-studded awards ceremony in London.
