Social media ‘yobs’ force end of meets

Classic Car Weekly (UK) - - This Week -

A series of well-known regional classic car meets has been cancelled due to the anti-social behaviour of local boy racers.

Classic car show organiser Andrew Lyndon has been arranging get-togethers in the Midlands for more than 20 years – but has had to axe all of this year’s planned South Midlands Classic Car Meets at two village pubs in the region due to young motorists and their friends infiltrating them via social media.

He says yobs messaged the times, dates and venues of his meets mainly via

Facebook. ‘ They’d turn up in modified motors and on motorcycles, and engage in appalling behaviour, much to the horror of the landlords, local residents, and classic car owners,’ says Andrew.

‘As well as blocking driveways and yelling obscenities, they’ve also been posting videos on Facebook showing chicken run antics with local motorists. It’s not fair on all the genuine classic enthusiasts who attend, but I’ve had no option but to cancel all our meets.’
