A British company is offering classic owners an alternative that will allow them to enter London for free.

In our 13 July issue we reported that classic owners would be stung with a £21.50 charge, just for entering the capital. Electric Classic Cars’ kits could provide a way round zone charges.

Richard Morgan, one of the partners in the business, says: ‘We take iconic classics and convert them to be 100% electric. This means they are classed as zero road tax vehicles and they’re exempt from congestion zone charges.

‘As a rough guide, DIY kits, which include batteries, motors, controllers and everything you’ll need to convert your car to electric, start from £10,000 and finished cars are anything from £20,000 to £50,000.’ Among ECC’s popular conversions is a fully electric classic Volkswagen Beetle.
