An auction house is offering buyers the chance to buy an original 1975 Ford Escort RS2000 that hasn’t been used for the past 27 years.

Despite not being in working order, the car is expected to fetch more than £20,000 when it comes under the hammer at Mathewsons’ auction on 3 September in Pickering, North Yorkshire.

The rally-bred fast Ford has been drystored since being taken off the road, and has since been inspected by an independent expert who describes it as ‘very correct’.

David Mathewson from the auction house says: ‘ The guy bought it and time got away from him. It’s had a huge amount of interest – and we’ve even heard that someone who wanted to buy it when it went into storage 27 years ago is sniffing round again!’

Elsewhere in the sale, a 1988 Ford Sierra Sapphire GL will arouse more interest from Ford fans. The immaculate car has covered just 2000 miles and has an estimate of £5000-6000.
