Porsche’s price record

Classic Car Weekly (UK) - - News -

This never raced or restored 1956 Porsche 550RS Spyder sold for a £4.3m hammer price at Bonhams’ Revival sale. Chassis 009 of 90 examples produced from 1953-1956 and is said to be the most original survivor. The sale car set a price record but fell below its estimate of £4.7 to £6.2m. The ‘timewarp’ is in great condition. Mark Osborne, vice-president of Bonhams Motor Cars in the US, describes it as: ‘Exactly how a 550 would have looked, smelt and felt like when James Dean famously purchased his example back in 1955.’ Its first owner was a television show producer.

It’s never been raced – rare for a 550RS.
