‘the only event we go to’
Why classic owners bring their Sunday best for Goodwood’s pre-’76 car show-within-a-show
You’d be forgiven for never making it past the Revival’s pre-1976 car park. With 3500 vehicles, it’s a great selection of classics that reflects the show’s truly international appeal.
Highlights included a one-make display area dedicated to classic Jaguars, with upwards of 300 pristine cars, all driven in, on display. Plenty of the entrants were up for sale, too – it was hard not to tempted by the pristine Jaguar MkIX driven by two German friends from Hamburg, which was being advertised on the field for £35k.
Despite a strict 40 years-plus remit, a couple of more modern classics managed to sneak in. Friday’s showing was impressive, but was matched by Saturday and Sunday, despite the inclement weather on the former.
Rikkert Leeman, who drove his 1986 Porsche 911 Carrera from Antwerp, summed up the Revival spirit perfectly. He says: ‘It’s the only British event we go to, but we do it every year because it’s superb.
‘Not only do we love the racing but the atmosphere and the period costumes make it feel very different to other shows. I wouldn’t miss it for the world.’
