The fact that I’m hearing that MG Motor UK is prepared to safeguard the important stuff at Longbridge is a really good thing. Having poked around every corner of that site – both officially and unofficially – I can tell you that there are some amazing remnants still there. Herbert Austin’s office has been preserved in Aspic in the Round House, while the cars that remain are fascinating. There are also lots of parts, and memorabilia that must be protected. What I find disappointing about all of this is that I’m not hearing this good news from MG Motor UK directly, and that it has not actually said a word about the future of the factory, aside from the fact that the Technical and Engineering Centre remains in place.
