Long-running rally venue to concentrate on ‘family-oriented’ events
Northampton venue is A to close its gates to classic car events from the end of the year. Billing Aquadrome has held regular car shows together with annual meetings and rallies for different vehicle marques in the 235-acre grounds of the riverside park situated just off the A45.
‘After a full review of the events calendar at Billing Aquadrome, we regret to announce that we will no longer be hosting car show events after this year,’ says a spokesperson. ‘Unfortunately we will no longer be able to accommodate these shows to a satisfactory level.’
The venue is planning to dedicate further space for additional static caravans and holiday homes, as well as intending to concentrate on ‘family focused events’ in future.
Billing Aquadrome has long been associated with motoring events. CCW’s sister publication Land
Rover Owner held its inaugural LRO shows there, but outgrew the site and has since established them at the Peterborough Showground, Cambridgeshire.
‘ We’re sad to see the end of the Aquadrome events, having been involved with them for so much of their run,’ says an LRO spokesperson. ‘But we have concentrated on building our show at Peterborough into the hugely successful event it is today.’
Other national Land Roverbased events have been continued to be based at Billing until now. However, following the announcement, two new offroader shows have sprung up. Kelmarsh Hall, Northamptonshire will play host to one on 21-23 July next year while another for Land Rover fans will use the nearby Grange Farm off-road course at Northampton on an as-yet unconfirmed date. ❚ www.billingaquadrome.com
