BillinG AquA­drome Axes mo­tor shows

Long-run­ning rally venue to con­cen­trate on ‘fam­ily-ori­ented’ events

Northamp­ton venue is A to close its gates to clas­sic car events from the end of the year. Billing Aqua­drome has held reg­u­lar car shows to­gether with an­nual meet­ings and ral­lies for dif­fer­ent ve­hi­cle mar­ques in the 235-acre grounds of the river­side park sit­u­ated just off the A45.

‘After a full re­view of the events cal­en­dar at Billing Aqua­drome, we re­gret to an­nounce that we will no longer be host­ing car show events after this year,’ says a spokesper­son. ‘Un­for­tu­nately we will no longer be able to ac­com­mo­date th­ese shows to a sat­is­fac­tory level.’

The venue is plan­ning to ded­i­cate fur­ther space for ad­di­tional static car­a­vans and hol­i­day homes, as well as in­tend­ing to con­cen­trate on ‘fam­ily fo­cused events’ in fu­ture.

Rover Owner held its in­au­gu­ral LRO shows there, but out­grew the site and has since es­tab­lished them at the Peter­bor­ough Show­ground, Cam­bridgeshire.

‘ We’re sad to see the end of the Aqua­drome events, hav­ing been in­volved with them for so much of their run,’ says an LRO spokesper­son. ‘But we have con­cen­trated on build­ing our show at Peter­bor­ough into the hugely suc­cess­ful event it is today.’

Other na­tional Land Rover­based events have been con­tin­ued to be based at Billing un­til now. How­ever, fol­low­ing the an­nounce­ment, two new of­froader shows have sprung up. Kel­marsh Hall, Northamp­ton­shire will play host to one on 21-23 July next year while an­other for Land Rover fans will use the nearby Grange Farm off-road course at Northamp­ton on an as-yet un­con­firmed date. ❚
